Concept
Private mesh networks
A model of short-range nodes that forward a message from one device to another without requiring a conventional internet connection.
Project overview
A model of short-range nodes that forward a message from one device to another without requiring a conventional internet connection.
What problem are we solving?
A conversation that depends on one distant service stops when that service stops. Some places never had a dependable connection to begin with.
How does the technology work?
In the model, a device hands a message to the nearest mesh node. That node forwards it to another node that is closer to the destination. The receiving device collects it. Each extra hop is a new path, and also a new place where delivery can fail. The diagram lets you select a node and read only that hop.
System architecture
- A device speaks to a nearby node.
- Nodes forward among themselves.
- The destination device receives the message.
- If a node disappears, that path is gone. Other paths are a design goal, not a measured result.
Development phase
Concept only. HOLK TECH has not published a mesh protocol and has not reported a field trial.
Current challenges
- Radio range, power and interference are untested in this programme.
- A private mesh still needs a way to name devices without exposing them on the open internet.
Next milestones
- Keep the public diagram labeled as a model.
- A prototype status will require hardware that actually forwards a message.
